Tell us about the fundraiser and/or organization you are nominating: St. Bernard Academy

SBA is an exceptional K-8 school in Nashville, Tennessee, founded in 1866. It’s known for its outstanding academics, talented teachers, and lessons on social justice, but not for its outdated campus facilities.

Tell us about the piece you are nominating:

The nominated piece is St. Bernard Academy’s case statement in support of the Building Our Future campaign, which was was launched to update the campus and make room for the school’s growing enrollment.

Why do you think they are deserving of a Bloomie?

St. Bernard Academy’s Case for Support deserves a Bloomie for three reasons.

1) The graphic design is clean, engaging, and creatively highlights the school’s “family” atmosphere. SBA is a tight-knit community filled with teachers who nurture while they push for excellence. Students and parents are very engaged and the case’s design reflects these special attributes. The design gives families and supporters a peek at the school’s vision–and the opportunities they can give their children and grandchildren.

2) The text is easy to read and actively involves the prospective donor. It excites the donor about the school’s future and the opportunities they can make happen. There are many ways to process information–text, photo captions, charts. The messaging is clear and the reader can easily understand the need for campus enhancements by reading the case cover to cover, or just by casually skimming it.

3) It worked! St. Bernard Academy’s Building Our Future campaign exceeded its goal by 40%.

Hard to argue with that! Nice job.

Kristen holds a Master of Public Affairs degree with concentrations in Nonprofit Management and Policy Analysis from Indiana University Bloomington and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Oklahoma State University. She also worked for two years as a Research Assistant in grad school on the multi-year Indiana Nonprofits: Scope and Community Dimensions project.
