first-time donor communication

The lack of a documented communications plan is something nonprofits of all shapes and sizes struggle with, especially when it comes to first-time donor communication. How and when you respond to first-time donors can direct whether or not they’ll give again. The average first-time donor retention rate is only 23%. For donors who give less than $100, that rate drops to 18%.

Without a plan, it’s likely that a new donor will receive messaging from you that is inappropriate for the stage of the relationship. Use this template as a guide to craft how and when first-time donor communication should take place during their first year of giving.
