When you’re a small nonprofit with limited resources, having a donor database that is powerful, yet easy to use is critical.
Perry Hines, Director of Relationship Management, shares his thoughts on Bloomerang in the video below.
Shepherd Community, we’re a 30-year-old organization. Our objective, our mission, is to break the devastating effects of generational poverty on a specific section of Indianapolis. We are a faith-based organization, no-holds barred. That’s who we are, that’s what we do, and we always want to bring the love of Jesus Christ into everything that we do.
One of the things that led us to look at a new donor-software program is just the ability to navigate the reports, navigate the system. Our old donor-software program was old, outdated, and quite frankly, there really wasn’t a lot of support there.
Things have improved tremendously since we’ve become a Bloomerang convert, if you will. We don’t have the privilege of having someone who is just dedicated to doing the donor-management system for us. We needed flexibility, we needed ease of use, and the other thing that really was important to us was unlimited users. That’s something that we’ve really enjoyed and quite frankly, didn’t know that we would use a lot of, is the support that comes from using Bloomerang, or being a Bloomerang customer.
We’re a small department here, so a lot of people are using it all day long, so the ability to call someone, to email someone, and get answers pretty quickly, has been key and it’s extremely valuable to us.
If I were talking to an organization who wanted my advice on looking for a new software program, I would say, “Look at the needs of the people who are going to be using the program on your end, and then go out there and search for a company that matches those needs.” For us, we needed ease of use, we needed something that was clean, modern and intuitive, and something that we could grow into. As a department group, we felt that Bloomerang was a perfect choice for us.
About Shepherd Community Center:
Shepherd Community is a faith-based, inner-city ministry that has operated on the near Eastside of Indianapolis since 1985. Their mission is to break the cycle of poverty on the near Eastside of Indianapolis by engaging and empowering the community to cultivate healthy children, strong families, and vibrant neighborhoods through a Christ-centered approach that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic needs of our neighbors.
They serve the near Eastside of Indianapolis, Indiana. Unfortunately, poverty is a defining characteristic of our neighborhoods. Poverty rates in these areas reach as high as 38.6%. And eight out of ten children rely on school as their primary source of food during the week.
Yet, Shepherd exists to provide hope and support to our neighbors. We are helping our neighbors break the cycle of poverty through a unique and holistic approach we call our Continuum of Care. The Continuum of Care is a full set of programs that allow us to be continuously engaged in the lives of neighborhood children, teens, and their parents. It is designed to help our families overcome the challenges they may be facing in all areas: physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic.
