Comfortable Cat

One definition of comfortable is “easy to accommodate oneself to or associate with.” The dictionary provides this sample sentence: “She is a comfortable person to be with.”

We all have that one person we feel comfortable with where we can be ourselves and not worry or feel anxiety.

This week, I heard one of my prospects describe Bloomerang as ‘comfortable’ looking. I smiled and thought “What an odd choice of words to describe a donor database!” But, after some reflection, being comfortable is exactly how you should feel about a tool that is designed to help you raise more money!

Being comfortable with your CRM means:

1. It is easy and intuitive to use. All fundraising CRMs say they are easy to use. Nothing new there. But a CRM where you can log in and instantly start building relationships with donors is rare. Spending thousands of dollars in order to learn how to use software does not sound comfortable to me.

2. It is modern. Technology is evolving at record speeds. Modern technology is making our lives easier – communication, peer-to-peer, crowdfunding, the cloud, etc. Old is more complicated!

3. It does some work for you. How helpful would it be to have your donor CRM automatically do some analytic work for you: donor retention percentages, upgrades, downgrades, who’s lapsing this month, engagement ranking, etc. Have a ‘coach’ provide you with some information every time you log in sounds comfortable to me!

4. It has a committed team on your side! Best practices by industry leaders and a knowledgeable support team at your finger tips means you are not alone! That brings great comfort.

So, yes, your donor database can be comfortable! Is yours?
