Wayne Steer, Director of Fund Development – Fresh Start Recovery Centre
I’ve toured Fresh Start with Wayne Steer as my guide. I’ve met the people served. I’ve eaten in their cafeteria. It is brilliant success, worthy of all the support we can give them. Definitely saving lives.
Tell us about the piece you are nominating:
Their 2014 Christmas Campaign appeal letter uses a striking photo and a short appeal that is donor-centric and communicates impact.
The accompanying story is an actual story from one of their many inspiring and brave men (and fathers) who is now both a Father and a Dad to his young children (names changed because the fear of stigmatization of drug addicts still runs strong and deep).
Why do you think they are deserving of a Bloomie?
Wayne is doing some of the strongest, stare-you-straight-in-the-eye donor communications I’ve seen. I use them in my presentations because nobody’s better.
Fresh Start is a magnificent mission, a magnificent organization, and Wayne’s stuff is the exact opposite of timid, tame, hesitant, cautious. Everyone with “tough” missions like this — getting addicts off the streets and back into life — can learn from Fresh Start and Wayne Steer.
